cellulite
What precisely is cellulite?
Cellulite is the term used to describe pockets of trapped fat that
cause uneven and dimpling skin. It appears most often in post-adolescent
women, it is rarely seen in men. This is due to how muscle, fat,
and connective tissue are distributed within the female and male
bodies.
Cellulite is most commonly found on the thighs, buttocks, hips,
and abdomen. Studies have shown that hormones, age, and lifestyle
all
play a significant role in the appearance of cellulite.
What causes
cellulite?
Before discussing the cellulite bike program, we wanted to take
a quick minute to go over exactly how cellulite forms. Beneath
the epidermis
and dermis are three layers; muscle, reserve fat, and subcutaneous
fat. Cellulite forms in the subcutaneous fat layer, which is trapped
between the dermis and the reserve fat. This subcutaneous layer
is structurally different because its fat lobes are squeezed
by the
surrounding strands of tissue and are then organized into chambers.
Eventually,
the connective tissue begins to break down and allows the fat chambers
to move into the dermis which creates the cottage cheese effect
that so many people dislike.
There are a variety of reasons why some people are more
prone to cellulite than others. Genetics, environmental conditions,
and
lifestyle
are
all believed to play a part in the appearance of cellulite. But
the bottom line is that 90% of all women over 20 years old will
develop
the dreaded dimples.
